Hi, I had a domain with GoDaddy and never used and its almost been a year. They want me to renew it. But I want to cancel this and close my account. But can't seem to do it.

Depends on how long you signed up for...If you had auto renew setup for a number of years, they will try to deduct your credit card...

just disable the auto renew feature in that domain it will be deleted after expiry.

disable auto renew as suggested by previous poster

also you can use "godaddy safety feature": make sure your credit card with them is expired and change you paypal preauth payment limit to 1 cent :)

Godaddy has auto renewal feature, so you need to disable it then you will not pay for it anymore.

Generally speaking, in your case, you do not need to pay for your domain renewal, well, in the next three months from its expiration date, your domain will be open to the public.
But, if you want to close your account there, you need to contact your registrar to stop it, hope everything goes well for you. :)
