Hello everyone If I have an article directory and someone submits their article to ezinearticles or some article site, and then they submit it to mine would I get a google penalty? I am sure this happens a lot considering all the article directories out there...
I don't think this would be an issue regarding content penalty. Page contents penalty would be an on site issue, IMO. All the best,
There are plenty of article directories out there and most of them never had such a problem with Google. You should be aware that "duplicated content penalty" is still a myth until now. I would saying there are no real penalty on duplicated content issues but only stronger will survive. The good example is your article directory and Ezinearticles.com. If both have the exact similar article then I would see Ezinearticles got ranked for its title without a doubt. That is how authority status work in Google. It did not mean your article directory will surely die by have the similar contents. I do not think every article directories will have all articles 100% similar among them. They may have some exact similar article but it will not be exact for 1,000 articles, unless they have been dumped from the same SQL file. And again, article directory is completely different from content scraper websites. That's why you should not worry too much on this kind of penalty.
Maybe you can offer an article spinning services with articles submit to your directory so you can somehow show little changes and difference of articles compared to the same article already submitted to others..
One thing that has plagued the SEO industry for years has been a lack of consistency when it comes to SEO terms and definitions. One of the most prevalent misnomers being bandied about is the duplicate content penalty. I am sure there is no such thing as a search engine penalty for duplicate content. At least not the way many people believe there is. Duplicate content has been and always will be a natural part of the Web. It’s nothing to be afraid of. If your site has some dupe content for whatever reason, you don’t have to lose sleep every night worrying about the wrath of the Google gods. They’re not going to shoot lightning bolts at your site from the sky, nor are they going to banish your entire website from ever showing up when someone searches for what you offer. The duplicate content probably won’t show up in searches.
that is nothing to do with duplicate content dude, it's different case of common duplicate content... your site is article directory site....
I'll agree with everyone here. If you think about it, it would be a real bear trying to implement such a thing, even for someone with the resources of Google. It would require comparing every page on the web with every other page on the web at some point. There's no other way to know. Also, what happens to mirrored sites? Mirrored sites would take a major hit for what is certainly a legitimate practice, not that all such sites are legitimate, but the practice certainly is. I could see them trying to do this with respect to Adsense placement, but for the search index itself? No. Even Google isn't that big.
I think article Directory never suffered with duplicate content because most of the single article submit at least twenty site. If this is crime then all the article site must be punished. I think the problem arise only when a single site holding two same article.
