Not necessarily. I agree that I wouldn't expect a high profile company to have Adwords e.g. BBC, CNN etc.. but I wouldn't think a website was crappy just because it used Adwords.
even then, adwords wont generate me traffic, who else thinks adwords looks tacky? or do you think it looks ok? maybe its where you put them
One really simple and easy way that can be equally useful to any of the website is write articles for your website and submit it to the articles accepting sites. It is very easy and I have used it. It gives many unique clicks and good traffic. Best Luck for your website.

Use everything you can related to social bookmarks and media. Do facebook fanpages, go on Yahoo answers, and answer peoples questions. Look up in google "list of social bookmarks" "list of social media" and so on and so on. There are many ways you can get yoru site across. Go on gaming forums, and suggest this. Go on forums where they talk about earning money.

As i have reviewed your website, the only way you can do is advertising for it on related websites or keywords.You can try PPC advertising networks like Adsense, Bidvertiser, Adbrite and start with a little money with them, then if you earned from your website, continue advertising for it.
