How do I add TXT record to DNS configuration???

Discussion in 'Site & Server Administration' started by MarkUSA, Jun 23, 2010.

I was instructed to <<Add the following TXT record to your DNS configuration:>> to verify a site that I am selling. Can someone please explain how I do this? I searched all over my hosting and registrar account but couldn't find how to do it. Thank you!

What control panel do you use? You can do it using control panel if you have any. If you don't have, you need to edit zone file for that domain and will have to add following line.

I have cPanel but cannot locate that option. Also, where is that file that you call "zone file" located?

If you don't have root access, you need to contact your hosting provider since these options are not available for end users.

Just an FYI, the zone file is located at
    /var/named/yourdomainname.db
and also can be managed from
WHM >> DNS Functions >> Edit a DNS Zone

As you have cPanel, if your hosting provider has enabled it look for Advanced DNS Zone Editor after you login to cPanel then:

    - In the name box put the name for the record e.g. myrecord.mydomain.com.
    - In the TTL box put the number of seconds to cache the record for 14400 is 4 hours and should be fine
    - Type select TXT
    - TXT Data insert the text information
    - Click Add Record

Should then all be done, if you don't have that option in cPanel just drop your provider a support ticket they should be happy to add it for you, only takes them a moment to do.
