Ok, here is my dilema, I have an aged domain that has many backlinks and it is in htm, now I have added a blog to the site and I want to add an excerpt from each post to the bottom of the home page, how do I change the pages not to get bounced for the backlinks? I know it is something to do with the htaccess file but will that harm my backlinks?

Second part how do I add excerpt is there a plugin?

There are so many plugins available for excerpt. Google is your best friend to search that.

Do you have back links to the home page or root/ or to individual posts. if you do install the redirection plugin and configure the post urls. it's easy. There are tons of themes out there that do exactly what your looking for.

I'm a little confused, I'm assuming you want to change your website to Wordpress? If so, you should be able to go to Settings/Permalinks and in the custom field add %postname%/.htm,. But you may have to edit the URL under your existing post that you want to keep, you may have to edit the permalink to your to match your url if not it'll automatically use your posts title as the url, you'll see the permalink right under the title of the post.

Then assuming your homepage is Wordpress again, as mentioned do a search in Google or your plugins page for excerpts or homepage excerpts. I'm using dailyblogtips.com/homepage-excerpts-wordpress-plugin/ after activating it click on it to set the wordcount and set the show full posts to zero.

If your homepage is a post (not page) you can use the sticky feature above "Publish" (one of the edit buttons on that post) to stick it to the homepage and the excerpts will show underneath. You can also set the number of post per page by going to Settings/Reading and changing the default 10 to a different number.
