Hi, I have a domain name
example.com that is on its own registrar

That domain is setup as an addon-domain in the cpanel of a separate hosting service. E.g. example.com has the nameservers of my hosting and is set up to a folder hosting.com/example, but is reached via example.com (hope I explained the easy bit correctly) I'm sure you all know what an addon domain is.

Now my problem is I need to 301 example.com to another domain which is also setup as an addon domain on the hosting package.

    Sooooo

    I 301 redirected hosting.com/example to newdomain.com

But when I go to example.com nothing happens

    How do I 301 example.com to newdomain.com?

God I'm bad at explaining lol

I'm guessing theres a conflict somewhere with the dual redirection. Try editing each individual .htaccess files from the subdirectory and the root directory.
