    And Analytics encourages Adwords usage, because the results of that can be tracked also there. And google makes money with adwords.

    I think it is definitely aimed at Adwords customers. They want to help them make as much money as possible through good webstats tracking, because that in turn ensure Google keep their business and attract more clients by word of mouth and recommendations.

    Giving great tools like this away free is a common marketing tool, and one that Google often use to good effect.

    Good question! And like most have said Analytics makes Google money by increasing interest and usage of Adwords. Everyone knows Adwords is Google's main source of income.

    Many people pay much money for informations what they get for free (except servers costs). For example, they get completely automatic data about new trends and interests... before competitors.

    I don't thing a lot of people realize this mong......the data they collect is more valuable than the revenue from ads.

    Like everyone is saying, they're getting lots of really valuable data.

    Personally I'm not completely happy about giving them so much info about my sites, I think I should start saving for something I can run on my own servers (what are the options out there?).

    Think of how google started, free search with no ads. Someday...someday...they will start to monetize this. It’s a great service and it will only get better. Adwords integration is good but knowing google, they will tie this into other services and so on. Maybe offer some sort of integration with hosting control panels that would have them growing this new space fast!
