Hi, I am a bit confused as when I check my back links in Google it only shows 62, where as when I check it throught Yahoo it is 600+. So why don't google show the same? or are their some sites that are not counted by google as back links?! Thanks, Roseate
Google count their backlinks much less frequently than Yahoo - consequently Yahoo always show a much higher number of backlinks. The Yahoo backlink figure is a much truer reflection of your actual standing.
Google has admitted they don't show all your backlinks. Best bet is to use Yahoo, as CountryBoy said.
google does not shows the real time backlinks. i think the best google backlinks checker is google webmaster tools links section
considering google is the most important search engine, it's probably best that it does not disclose all your links. If you have a site or a page that's ranked high it way too easy for people to figure out what you did to achieve that ranking. Quite frankly i LIKE the fact google does not show all links. I wish other search engines did the same.
What I'm saying is that the Yahoo number of backlinks is a much truer reflection of your actual standing in terms of raw number of links. Did I not just say that?
Thanks to all of you... But as my back links in google didn't increase for a long while (months!), doesn't that mean that my rank won't change too (in the search and PR)?!
Yes, Yahoo is more accurate than Google in terms of the "link:" command. If you want to see all your Google baclinks with Google you need to sign up a verify your site with their Webmaster central.
my backlink in google also not increase about more than 6 months. However, i believed this is due to google not updated as regular as yahoo. Im agree with you, and let me know how to sign up with their Webmaster Central.
Google never shows back links of your site to others as people can use to spam websites for SEO purpose.
If you do a link:yourdomain.com search, Google only shows a small subset of the backlinks they know about. Additionally, Google only changes the link: backlink count every few months - usually shortly before a PR update. So, don't sweat it. They know about many more backlinks than they show. You can get a much bigger list of the backlinks they've found by creating a Google account, adding your website to your account, and checking the link reports. Or, as CountryBoy already suggested, check your links at Yahoo. They report all the links they've found - and Google is likely to have found the same (or most of the same) links. There's information about finding out how many backlinks you have on this webpage: http://www.quantawebdesign.com/tips/pagerank.html#links best, Denise
that is an incorrect statement. Google surely knows more about your links than say yahoo or msn. Its just that they prefer not to show all the information.
ya yahoo is better to know yoyr links are as it helps to know if anybody has removed ur link to. google only show links according to its will.
My experience has been that the number of back links showing in Google does not impact your PR at all. However the credibility of those links will. Having links from high pr pages is more important than having a link from high pr site but low rank on the page your link is on.
