How do frequent updates effect google indexing?

I noticed that sometimes my blog is being indexed rapidly. For a new post in 10 minutes the page shows up in google. Other times it takes a day or two. I think the reason is that google bot comes back when I am making alot of frequent posts, but if I only make a new post once a week then googlebot will not come as often.
Can someone shed some light on this and let me know exactly how it works?

It's apparent that a website\blog that is updated more often will recieve more visists from GoogleBot, the exact formula to get crawled often is really not know, there is no math to increase your crawling rate. If possible, you can set your crawling rate to faster in the Google Webmasters Central.

I suggest you very simple method to indexed your blog fast but it can be possible on new post. After new posting in your blog just ping the google from here blogsearch.google.com/ping/ and you can notify some other blogs search engines by ping. Open this page and ping these search engines from here : http://www.pingoat.com/. In 1-2 hr check the result in google.
