How do directories start?

I'm new to the directories hustle but looking to learn for this newish idea I've been having.

I'd like to know how directories start though? What are the stages? Does the more PR = better directory and therefore more money? Which means I should create a directory and spend a load of money on quality PR backlinks?

Do all directories have a stage when they offer links for free in this case?

Free is the way to start unless u got bigfat bank balance and will start promoting big time from start.

Here are steps to getting directory online.
    1. Buy a domain name or if not use ur exisiting domain name create a subdomain name if you do not want to use the main domain name as directory.
    2. Search the web and look into pocket if you want to go with free or paid web directory script and get one.
    3. Get some unique design or something if your are interested for your directory otherswise you can stick to default one.
    4. After installing script , visit dP and announce it or advertise it wherever you want.
    5. Sit back and relax for a while till u start getting submissions after which you get busy editing links.
    6. If you are not still bored in few years after the start you might have a good enough directory.
7.After 10 years retire from your job and watch money flow in from ur directory (lol was j/k doubt that will happen)
    Enjoy.

My sugeestion is that you look around first before you just jump in.

While the market is saturated and the venue is cutt throat prices.

This is just my view and nothing more...but if you are going to start
a directory then stick to it dont do like the others and give up 1 month later
as they see how hard it id to get page rank and paid reviews.

If you think you will become rich then i suggest you take a second look.

    regardless i wish you luck

    thx

It'll take a fresh new idea to create a worthwhile directory. I spent more money and hours on my directory than I will ever probably get back. It's more of a hobby now than a worthwhile business model. lol

i've absolutely no idea what that means

blitz, scroll thru the countless pages on this forum and u will see how directories get started. PAIDHOSTING has given u a pretty good summary of this business and how to get started, but think u better put in many more hours of research and study before deciding if this is for u. If u want a quick start, buying a ready-made non-established one maybe an easy way to hit the ground running ;)
