How do determine what application was used to design a website?

    Hello all!

The website in question has a slideshow that is played on the main page of the website. I need to add a couple pictures to the slideshow. I wasn't the original creator of the website, so I'm not sure how to make the change without knowing what application was used to design the site. I own the company so I have the credentials to access the website through the host company, but I hired another guy to design it. He is now overseas with no way to contact him.

I have FTP the complete website from the host company to my computer. Is there anything in the website directory that could possibly identify what was used to create the site? I noticed a folder named Areas that has a subfolder named cpanel. Under that is two folders named Admin and Shared. The Admin directory has 18 .aspx files. Could this mean it was designed using a version of Windows Server Web using IIS?

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions!

Beware that many websites aren't built with anything more complex than a glorified notepad replacement... Though it being ASPX means that:

    1) It was quite possibly built with Visual Studio or some other Microshaft tool.

    2) It's probably a bloated train wreck of how not to build a website that should be deep sixed in it's entirety.

If you were willing to share a URL to the live copy of the site, we could probably advise you faster than any automated "tool" ever could.

Second DS on this. We need more info. And like DS says, it could have been coded on something as simple as a text editor or as complex as a proprietary self-programmed program not available anywhere but from the original coder.

If you have the source code, you COULD find the location(s) and parameters of the current slide show, change them to add new images, then save and run with them. May not be easy for you, but can be done.
