how DMOZ editors select good and quality directories. what dmoz editors look for in a directory? Is the editorial decision unbiased one?

I believe only in dreams my directory would be selected by dmoz although i made every effort to make it high quality one.

Although it is not fair to be selfish here, i believe based on feeback from dmoz editors here i could work more to make my site a dmoz friendly one.:D

I also never understand why they are so much against including web directories there. There are tons of MFA & and crap blogs/sites listed there.

    competition?

I mean, if the 'worlds largest directory" started to list the worlds best quality directory random users may figure out that it really is quality over quantity?

As for the directory in question, I didn't really look. I know that some directories are listed, but have no real clue on comparisons as I'm not going to bother checking into it. Though, if it's anything like forums, then the categories that are listed should likely have some unique sites. If not, then there is no real need to list 'yet another directory' as most of them do all seem the same. Make it different and you may make a difference ;)

It should also not have any blank/empty categories. An empty page, including template defaults (like the Wordpress ABOUT page) is generally a sure sign of a lazy webmaster and generally a sign of either a site that will never be updated again, or one that will die off before the next time the category is looked at.

After those two things though I would not even hazard a guess.

It has nothing to do with whether they are free or paid. It has to do with unique content. If you compare any other directory with ODP, how many could even remotely come close to ODP in listings? None, unless they use the ODP itself. So in order for a directory to be listed they need many, many listings, and no empty categories and/or a lot of articles with unique content. Niche directories have a much better chance of being listed than general directories.

Sorry and cant agree with these. You guys might be good on editing but there are things that you have to KNOW about Directories. But hey if you still have those PAST Ideas and CONCEPT about Directories it doesn't matter. No one likes to be listed in a BANNED Category unless someone has to Modify and put that category up to date... till then ;)

Your post confuses me, PoPo. We were not referring to our concept at all. We were referring to getting a directory listed in ODP, and that has not changed, I can assure you. What we said applies to anyone trying to get a directory listed in ODP.

Getting a directory listed in the ODP NO Chance. I have said before the old ways doesn't work at all in terms of directories. THE ONLY EDITOR who had the guts to clean up that category and KNOWS the PRESENT of what a Directory is supposed to be has MYSTERIOUSLY VANISHED. I saw a number of listed sites there that were not SUPPOSED to be there with some LEFT out. Its HOPELESS to get a directory listed there as MOTSIE would just whack it out.

There are directories that have a few listings but are listable and I have challenged a BANNED META about its listability. :)

Niche directories with limited entries but which cover the whole range of the niche, plus some decent original factual information would quite possibly be accepted but a general directory has no chance whatever as to get to the level of entries required would take years and an army of editors. The other way of getting a directory in with an otherwise lesser number of entries would be a completely unique way of returning results, e.g. the first one that added index page snapshots but not the copycats, and there are not many ideas that haven't been tried.

    Banned meta?

Hehehe. I know about niche directories. :) I am talking about General Directories. There are quite a few that are supposed to be there but never got there. What are LISTINGS ? You were just late and the I cant show it anymore. Previously most of the listed sites there are have downloaded listings. V7N Directory never made it though its an Authority same with Alive as it was WHACKED. General Directories are Classified there are PAID and there are even BID. PAID Directories some have editorial integrity of not accepting sites because of penalties that they should put in consideration.
