    I dont know about $1 million, maybe couple $100,000-$500,000 a month, but i dont know maybe they did. I'm sure other sites like myspace, yahoo, msn and google's monthly bandwidth bills are 6 digit figures.

    I think the main reason Google buy YouTube is just for to get the viewers and the video uploaders attention. Google are actually conquering most of BIG website in the internet.. domination i think hehe ;)

    If they bought it just for attention whats the point? Google is a business at the end of the day so it needs to make money somewhere down the line, they must have something in store?!

    I don't know how they made money in the past, maybe they will start selling ad space soon?

    Google = the future SkyNet jk:D

    It's somewhat ironic that even Google has to "buy" traffic. :)

    Just saw an interesting analysis of the problems that Google is having monetizing Youtube:

    At Google, the Search Is On for a New Approach to Old Media

    http://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/index.cfm?fa=viewfeature&id=1678

    Viacom and CBS have pulled videos from Google's YouTube. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently requested that some Oscar footage be taken down from YouTube as well. And Google's efforts to sell radio and print advertising have not met expectations. In short, Google's ability to navigate the traditional media landscape doesn't seem to be going particularly well. What's the problem? While Google has the resources to create deals with content companies, it still must contend with a number of confounding crosscurrents, including content owners' concerns over intellectual property and a clash of advertising models.
    <end cut and paste>

    Looks like Google does not yet have all of the answers yet, either.
