how did you select your niche(s)?

If you're doing niche marketing, how did you select your niche? Did you choose something that you love/know a great deal about, or did you make your decision based entirely on commercial/marketability considerations?

Just curious.

 

I picked my nitch, because it is what I enjoy doing. My blogs and my forums cover topics such as hiking, camping, hunting, online computer gaming and gardening.

When you post about something you do a lot of, finding content is easy.

 

Personally I don't run ads on sites which I have a personal interest in.

Money-wise, I research various niches and look at viabilities in implementing a website(s) for them. Sometimes, you come across a good niche but the intial work and subsequent overhead don't make it viable (maybe worth looking at out-sourcing here).

One thing I have found is that you need to let go of non-performing niches. Those who work on a niche they have a personal involvement (love/expert) may have difficulty doing this.

 

Well, I was really into Video Games, and glitching, and that is why I created GamerGlitch. My other sites came from thoughts I had while laying in bed.

Of course choose the niche interested or good in. This is the only way to create quality content and get success

 

I also chose my link from the passion I have,I chose my link from what I can enjoy most and what can I stay for long,and to keep up my niche is relevant for the future content update I ussually read my next niche from the long tail suggestion brought to me from the long tail software tracker

 

I selected my niches purely based on what I enjoy writing about. I like teaching and helping others learn, so I started my primary site as a hobby a couple of years ago. I write about things I'm passionate about, like core academic topics and computer science.

In fact, I don't start most of my sites with any commercialization in mind. I find it easy to share knowledge on things I care about, and I couldn't imagine blogging about other topics just because they're related to high-paying keywords. My stuff doesn't pay a lot based on per-click earnings, but I've built up a large community around my sites due to their high quality content.

It is important to find your niche in business because it answers extremely relevant questions. You must know who your customers are and what they want from you. Choosing a niche almost immediately fills in all blanks about your target market. Knowing your customer and their problems will allow you to offer solutions. Solutions are products or services that you offer to a group of targeted individuals.

Narrowing down your niche can be hard. Start by writing down all the things you love to do and enjoy in life. Include life experiences, jobs, skills, interests and passions. Really dig in and take the time to think of lots of ideas. Get specific. Ask others what they think your niche is. You may find some really surprising answers!

 

My main hobby is lifiing weights so I do this.
But for making money I try to find keywords that arent trashed and do my ninche on that.

 

i check popular topics on popular forums, then make a niche about that topic

 

I sell what's already selling. Or things that people are borderline desperate for.

 

Personally, if one really work on IM industry, money talk shall be put it aside. Ive been watching few people who are doing it based on their interest rather than money when somehow it shall explode without you even knew it! So, having popular targeted niche or randomly pick niche after all is come out with passion.

I started doing the stuff I really enjoy doing... something that I'd do FREE even after 5-10 years. So far it has paid off pretty well (it's been several years now) and I'd still do this stuff for free

I normally do stuff I enjoy, but the I use google trends to find the important keywords.

 

Something I love typically won't make you the most money. It's the weird niches that seem to be the money makers. I start by using Google trends

 

There are two ways you can go about selecting your niche. You can as you have stated select something you are passionate about. But I would caution that it is ok to do this, but make sure there is enough of a market that you will make money. Unless you are not interested in making money and you just want to publish information because you really like it.

If you want to look for profitable niches you should first look at what things are trending. You can look at Google Trends, eBay Hot items, Amazon top sellers. This will give you an idea of what is popular. Pick something you like then you have to see if there is a marketing.

I use Google Keyword to see how much traffic is coming in for keywords in my niche.
