How did you promoted your forum?

I have started a new forum which is computer related. I want to promote it and get members for the forum.
so i want to know how you guys promoted your forums so that i can also learn a few of those things and get some members for the forum.

My primary promotion technique is posting videos on youtbe. Over the past 2 years I have posted around 319 of my own homemade videos on youtube.

As a result, youtube is my 4th or 5th highest source of traffic. At one time, youtube sent my forum as much traffic as yahoo.

Also, the bounce rate for youtube traffic is around 18%. Where traffic from google has a bounce rate of around 48%. That means that my videos are sending targeted traffic to my site.

If your serious about your community and your willing to put the time and effort into making videos, then give it a try.

 

maybe start the forum off as no registration required. This will build up content.

Then, when you have content, switch to members only. People will be more likely to join if they is lots of content

 

I liked the video technique.
I will try to make tutorials in video. Can you please share a good software for video capturing from screen.
And about the open forum where no registration is required, will it increase spamming and bots?

 

I get traffic from different resouces, DP is one of them. I get many visitors from search engines too.

If your forum is new I would recommend you to read these tips for forum owners. It helped me a lot when my forum was new

 

Not an good idea. Forum will be full of spam posts and bot soon.

 

StopForumSpam integration (available for VB, MyBB, phpBB and SMF, though the phpBB and MyBB ones need tweaking at least) helps a great deal with that.
