How did you become an seo expert ?

I like what "articledirectory" said... I could have 100 sites on page one of G,Y & MSN and never will call myself an expert! The algos change constantly. You need to (I hate this term), think outside the box. Yes, you need the basics you can find on most forums with enough reading, but you also need to not follow the pack and rationalize what works and what doesn't, and create your own ideas. There was some mentions of how some have spent many years learning SEO, these are the guys to listen too. I have learned alot from forums, but not half as much as I have from the school of hard knoks, much like "articledirectory". And remember, there are so many BS'ers in forums, boasting, bragging, etc. Some of them even have a hidden agenda. Read alot on forums such as this, and keep in mind what you want to acheive, learn from others, while dissemenating fact from fiction, and you should do fine in time, provided you put effort into it. I think if you listen to the old timers, you'll see that they learned the most from "tried and true" methods. Yes, they got the basics from forums, ebooks, etc, but when it comes down to it, in a few years, you will realize you learned the most by evaluating and acting on your own ideas!

 

I wouldn't say I am a seo expert heh, but I would figure hard work dedication and trial and error with certain projects. You only know what works best when you do it on your own.

 

Becoming an "SEO expert" is kind of like trying to catch a greased pig in a rodeo. The field of SEO reminds me of those little deerlike animals you see being chased by cheetahs on the wildlife shows. Just when it seems the cheetah is about to catch it, the little critter jukes left or right and makes a fool of the cheetah. I feel like that cheetah pursuing the ever-elusive SEO critter.

 

The best way to learn is by doing. But asking questions, (don't hesitate to email people you think would know) reading guides online, and doing good research, helps make the learning curve easier to climb.

Practice, Practice, Practice. Read and gain knowledge.....Practice the knowledge gained and become wealthy.

 

Lots of trial and error for years to see what works and what doesnt and of course reading everything I could get my hands on.

 

First get the idea about Search engines and Ethical SEO.
Then practice SEO tricks and techniques.
Analyse your site regularly and take necessory action. As analysis is the important part of SEO, you have to aquire enough knowldge form web about analysis.
After practicing few days, you will become SEO expert.

 

practice you can say but be creative and always think positive coz all is change by time and also changing seo so don't know how to expert in seo.

I had quality content from the very beginning of my website. But it was not until I learned how to optimize for the search engines that the serious traffic began to come.

P.S. Concerning the OP's title question, I'm still far from being an SEO "expert". But I've learned a lot from fellow DPers more knowledgeable than I over the years, I've applied that knowledge, and we are seeing good results.

 

reading, researching, implementing what is learned and experimenting will make you good in this field

 

An expert is someone who can show you results on Google, right now, everyday.

I am not a big SEO consultant, but my 7 years exp. in this field have helped me a lot in earning some Big $$$ .. earlier i was not involving in any forum or blogs, but from last few months i started to take some rest and for just passing my time in somthing other then my work i starting forum posting.

Before being a SEO Guy i was a Network Security Specialist .

 

Just like Dan said, yes there are extremely talented people in the search optimization field.. But the term "Expert" is a hard one to use correctly in SEO.

The only people i personally consider experts are the engineers at Google.

If you Google "SEO" you will probably find me in 4th position outranking the likes of SEOBook.com and all the other popular names in the industry. However i wouldn't call myself an expert, i could wake up tomorrow and the playing field has changed and all my knowledge means very little.

My expertise is SEO, but i don't believe i "am" an expert... Just good at what i do.

 

Rather surprised to see a right-on target statement. Many surely like the catchy words and phrases, but they simply deceive others and themselves.

I can't help chuckling when one says something about "SEO skills" also. Just like some other people said, it's rather knowledge rather than technical issues.

The pure techniques and knowledge of Google algo... only contribute to the effort of Google engineers.
