There isn't much you can do about the penguin update really. Start looking for other sources of traffic would be my suggestion!

I would suggest you to follow the google webmaster quality guideline and their optimization tips to get rid of google penalty updates (panda, penguin or whatever it is). If your website can comply with the set of google quality guidelines then you will be in safer place always.
I really think that the penguin update is not about how to rank sites but rather HOW NOT TO GET PENALIZED by google. It's simple, it's easy to rank websites if you are doing white hat. In the long run, you'd be the most beneficial in terms of ranking since google has been updating every now and then to penalize the black hat SEOers.
