How did this site (3d2.com) grow in popularity overnight?

This website (3d2.com) was registered in 1997 and until two weeks ago it appeared to be pretty much dormant. Now it’s on Alexa’s homepage as one of the Movers and Shakers but even if you type "3d2" into Google it only checks in as the fifth result. I can’t find any mention of the site in Google news, so it doesn’t seem like they’ve had a marketing rush recently, which bags the question “how did they become so popular, so fast?”

    Best wishes,

Maybe some offline marketing? That would explain the lack of online marketing in Google news.

Another thought - it's possible to 'fake' an Alexa ranking using an referer tool. It's pointless but your ranking will improve massively.
