Oh this will happen, and theams and stuff would be nice, our custerm desktop doesn't feel the same.

I didn't really intend it to be 'powerfull' as the Vista, but would be nice.

What do you think I should do then, the bootup works fine, need some installers and then it'll install the OS. will take time tho.

Windows Vista has 60million lines of code, Shellfish only has 100 lines.

Maybe I'm getting to big for my newbie boots here, but has ANYONE who has scoffed at this idea ever written a computer program? Let alone a functional OS kernel?

Teh-Uploader needs to be applauded for writing a bootstrap routine, it's way more than I can do, and I've programmed lots of apps.

When Linus offered his unix clone to the community, he received support, not vitriol...and look where that support got him and his 'little operating system"

Oh, and it's fairly well documented, that Bill G decided to 'design' Windows around the Mac OS, just as it's well known that the 2 Steve's from Apple took the Mac OS from the Xerox.

So does anybody actually know what language XP and Vista are in, or is everyone just taking guesses?

Maybe use linux as a base and strip out a lot of the stuff tha'ts not needed (ran so slow on my old computer so I gave it the boot)

 

Good question, rochow, but does it really matter?

Whether it's C, C++, VB, it would still need to be compiled, and compilers are generally rubbish at translating to the bare metal.

A new OS, programmed purely in assembler would be such fun, but I reckon Steve Gibson is the only person left on the planet who could do it!

P.S. I still reckon that all the new code in Vista is C#, old stuff is a mixture of C, C++ and assembler (for low level kernel routines)

 

I didnt say that about the misinformation, I said it about a lot of the people telling this guy he couldnt just go out and make an OS

 

Bill Gates stole the look and feel of Mac OS X, Apple sued Gates, the case kept dragging, then Apple fell on hard times and settled out of court for Gates buying millions worth of their stock. (IIRC)

This is why i've already planed it, made the boot up now to make the system...
