i was checking my competitors backlinks and saw he had a link coming from an .edu site heres the link: http://www.shsu.edu/~stdcgc12/Corley_Act_11/fightingbearad.html now, if you click ANY of the links on the page (except for the links at the bottom of course), they take you to a 404 page. its not really an educational page. can anybody take a guess on how they got this?
well.its coming from http://www.shsu.edu/ a student from there or something maybe,or is this somekind of redirect or something?
The bottom links goes to sites with pr5 and pr6 they worked real hard , In my opinion edu links has no difference for google then the other Tlds. But this is a link from a student page and it is easy to get , I also know an abondened directory on an .Edu Tld.
They can buy a link or do a link exchange, in which the search engines will regard you as gold. Maybe the .edu site is temporarily offline, switching servers or hacked. Hope I've helped
That page was put up in 2004 using WS_FTP (http://www.shsu.edu/~stdcgc12/Corley_Act_11/WS_FTP.LOG) Someone may have known the student (~stdcgc12) that had control of that area and was given access. Or, maybe that user/student had a generic password for ftp and "Kara Michelle" (see WS_FTP.LOG) guessed the ftp password. There could be other reasons also (such as those suggested by Geoffrey and more)... but I wouldn't worry about it.
