Being that I'm at work I only had time to skim them but those look like really helpful sites. I too have a forum that I wish to build (as a hobby, not for money) but it's been slow going. I've come to realize though that it *is* a slow process and there is no such thing as fast results. Still, these sites look like they will help ensure that any growth I experience will be quality growth. Thanks for the links!

After join many webmaster forum, the reason DP become big basically due to
    1. Number of experience webmaster make quality informative post
    2. Active BST section

If you can build an active BST section with high reputation, then definately your forum will become "BIG"

Remember too that DP is one of the last to still offer a free marketplace for sites, domains, digital products, etc.
Most are charging these days, with much less traffic to boot.
WMW doesn't even allow the slightest whiff of linking to anything, lest it might be spam.
Hence, much less traffic and discussion.

Give users something they can't get anywhere else. That's how this forum started... it was primarily a support forum for our keyword tracker tool, and just grew from there, so we already had an existing user base.

On top of that, we also were the ones to come up with many of the ideas that are now common in forums (people have replicated the ideas, but we were first)...

    etc...

So yeah... do something truly unique that users can't get anywhere else.

I joined dp because a friend advertised one of my directories here. I also wanted to find a place to get links and other webmaster related services. Despite some of the older members leaving the forum i have made some very good friends here and i have an ongoing working relationship with many people from dp. I have learned loads and hope to learn more.

    Thanks Brian

I joined DP because, I was pushed by the SE here so many times when I was searching a thing related to my stuff.
Now, I feel that this place is really worth to join.

There are just too many forums at the moment. If you want to get into forum then you need to be specific. Maybe an animal forum or garbage that you can turn into gold forum...something unique. Otherwise it would be very hard to build up your members.

Shawn summed it up so beautifully!
For any business to succeed, one should always look to serve people with a unique concept or product. It is the core to long lasting success! :)
