How did rate my professors promote themselves?

I spent a long time creating a course reviews / textbook exchange site. I tried various marketing strategies like fliers, word of mouth, and facebook ads. The ads were getting pretty expensive, but they were pretty good at getting some good traffic to my site.

I was wondering if any of you guys knew how ratemyprofessors marketed their site? I checked archive.org and RMP got a lot of reviews even in the early days.

What encourages visitors to write reviews? I do get new reviews for schools that already have a lot of reviews, but find it hard to get new reviews for schools without any reviews.

I don't want to make the site such that you have to register and write one review to view reviews. Does anybody have a good idea on how to market to college students or get around this?

    BTW, my site is http://www.gpabook.com

    Thanks in advance. :)

For review, you can always seek some college student to do the review by paying them such as $5/review.
And for marketing, you can hire some college student to promote it at their college community.
Or you can sponsor the college activity in return they place your ads at the banner ads
