How did my sites get indexed by Google?

    Hey there,

Has anyone experienced their site being indexed by Google without doing anything at all, ie no linking or submitting?

My wedding web site was indexed somehow and I'm not sure how.

    First I thought, Google Toolbar?

Then I thought it might have been my domain registrar posting newly registered sites?

I have also seen those ridiculous sites that have alphabetized lists of domains. I found one where my site was listed, although there doesn't appear to be a link. What is the deal with these sites?

Any insight on this would be much appreciated!

Maybe someone else owned the domain before you? Then the domain could have been due a revisit from Google.

It's such an unusual domain name that I really doubt that was the case, but thank you for the reply.

    It is unusual.

A couple of days ago my pal Chrissy started her blogs....out of curiosity I googled one of them "Chrissy Games" and it had top ranking!! She hasn't even formatted these blogs...just one or two posts.

do you have your page set to private or public? If it is set to public, there are any number of factors that may cause you to get ranked, outside of the natural fact the webcrawlers constantly scan the internet looking for new material and sites.

Maybe your URL name, the title of your page, your privacy setting, the content on your page, someone other than yourself linking to your page, etc?

Jacob, I have no idea what you mean by private vs public... My site is a basic html site that anyone on the internet could potentially see if they typed in the URL.

I know that webcrawlers are contstantly scanning the internet for new sites, but the question is how did they find me if I did not submit and there do not appear to be any links pointing to my site... I checked link: in all three top engines...

    Can you clarify your response?

    Thanks everyone for the responses.
