Most successful bloggers and marketers online are successful because that's all they do. When you are able to quit your 9-5 you have MADE it, you then can have the time to get better.

He has established his name and branded himself as one of those experts in blogging giving him the extra advantage to most of the bloggers around. Just like physical products whose brand name has been around for years and still growing strong due to strong relationship not only to their customers and supporter but also continuing to stay on top.

The man fought google and still came out on top, you have to give credit there. And as to why he is so popular ? I don't know but being in the right time and place plus having dollars to advertise have helped a lot.

i think i agreed with most of the people here ... content is not KING ... branding is KING ... he's good at marketing himself and make a good branding ... and also he is true to his readers and he had always been consistent.

Branding yourself is a good way to position yourself above other bloggers in the IM niche.

hahaha!! this made me laugh :D I understand the thread starter's point though. I absolutely can't understand it myself. But like what I've read from one of the posts above, with the name branding, the blog becomes self-sustaining. And with the events all tie-ing up to his name he becomes viral.

Yeah, I think there is definatly something to be said for a person that blogs as a full time profession.

As with most things in life, if there's no 'plan B', you have to focus your time, resources and energy into doing it well.

The main thing is that he has a marketing substance in him which make people attract.
The development of marketing substance in self is quite difficult job.

    Easy: guy had prior success.

When successful guy set ups a blog
    => successful blog.

    And then more success.

    It's a cumulative thing :)

Haha. Sorry. I was just a bit surprised. This in itself is promotion for him. Anyways, I'll give you reasons.

    1. John started blogging when blogging is not even a mainstream word. He is on the internet before you did.
    2. His niche is "make money online" - popular niche with 500,000-1,000,000 searches per month
    3. He has big connections - He is a respected figure in the blogosphere. The mere fact that you know him means he is popular
    4. Since he has big connections, he has a big network (and a network that converts mind you)
    5. (possibly a trait I admire in him) John Chow has a unique ability in making reviews. He promotes without straightforward advertising. Mainly the reason why his reviews are expensive

I would have to disagree. Seth has good, inspirational content.

Also, adding to the discussion, branding is king IF
    1. You do it at right timing
    2. You have the experience to back up your claims
    3. you have connections to help you rise up

And branding and content comes hand-in-hand
