How did John Chow Blog get so popular?

Whenever I am on john Chow's blog I always wonder how the hell he made his blog so popular.

He has 40,000 subscribers and continues to increase hundreds each week I really don't understand it. The blog its self has no certain focus its just as he puts it "The ramblings of a dot com mogul" however he still seems to be grasping subscribers and visitors and is still making over $30,000 each month

How? How the hell did he do it?
Was it because he was early?

Howww?

 

I guess so ... now there are thousands of 'making money online' kinda blogs ...

 

He has name recognition, and with that he continues to expand his influence. Once you get to a certain point it is self sustaining

 

It was part due to being in blogging early and part in spending money to advertise and promote. His name has become so well known that people just flock to the blog. Even his pissing match with Google did not hurt his popularity.

It is a case of hype over quality. Everyone else is checking it out maybe I should mentality. His blog is pure crap but you have to give the man his dues, he a genius when it comes to marketing crap.

 

I think the most important point in the success of the blog is, blog doesn't get google organic trafffic because of google search penalty.

 

He repeatedly hit the front page of Digg. As you know, that gives tons of visitors. Then when he got banned from Google, this caused more stir for him so people link to him talking about it.

He was the first to "jump in the water" and it has paid off.

Personally, John Chow's blog only has good content once in a while so that's how often I check it.

 

I checked this john chow fella last year. And he was promoting some wiki with million pages. Nice looking blog.

 

He got a lot of back links and his blog is more than 4 years. He is also adverting his blog on PPC program and before he start on making money from his blog now he is already making money from his PPC network.

 

One thing for sure, he's good at marketing.

 

He's better at taking photos of his lunches than offering any real advice about how to make money online.

 

John chow is overrated, but still a lucky genius

 

i think he keeps good content on his blog.

 

Mostly paid review and other crap. And some good stuff. I like it

 

He is a long time blogger, so he is having access to people who are considered best in blogging industry and he write good content as well.

 

He spend a lot of money in adwords and he is one of the first bloggers so he got success..

 

If you dont know why his successful, you wont be successful in the internet game, because it is a game

 

He has spent a lot of time and money promoting his brand name and it has worked very well for him.

 

Erm thanks? Not.
What a load of useless rubbish.

The reason I am asking this is because his blog goes against why most people are succesfull.

The reasons why he has been successfull won't work for everyone and most of the reasons he has been successfull I feel is down to timing and being able to invest money into his blog.

He is good at marketing however his blog lacks a focus.

 

I don't like most of these IM guru blogs because half their posts are about expensive overseas IM seminars, what they're up to in their private lives, or just general IM tips I've read a hundred time before. I only subscribe to blogs that offer quality tips and methods.

• He contributes
• He knows how to network
• He knows how to get followers engaged with his activities
• He got in early
• He makes videos (a lot)
• He posts every day
• He sometimes posts twice a day
• He has a big car on the front of his site
• His site is easy to navigate
• He gets on telly
• He gets in offline publications
• He has mad energy

Do you need any more reasons???
