    I just registered a new domain, 2 minutes later I was getting spam to the catch-all address.

    Is this a record and how do they get the name so quickly?

    There is a possibility for script doing arbitrary generation of email addresses/domains.

    Did the mail have any relevance to your domain name ?

    Could be someone having domain alert like the name intelligence one for specific words, and then let a script handle his emails sending out mails to the domains he is being alerted about.
