ummm, this is information that you can easily find on Wikipedia. Two guys at a US college did a project to organize web pages on the internet.... the search algorithm relied on crawling the internet and ranking them based on meta tags/descriptions and how many other websites are linking to them.
and they make their money by advertising premium google cloud services - $5 or $10 per user per month adds up web hosting ai, kubernetes etc selling apps on the play store and their cut on the in app purchases there are bound to be some premium search services
