How did this PR update go for directories? I think it didn't go all that well. In my free directory list, I see very slight increase in number of directories for each PR slab. You have to keep in mind that every 3 months around 700-800 new directories are added to my list and a lot of them are removed for one reason or other.

Here is a quick sample that I posted on DirectoryRoll blog:

Directory PR Number of Directories (PR Update 31st Dec 2009) Number of Directories (PR Update 1st April 2009)
    6 1 1
    5 15 25
    4 68 60
    3 154 216
    2 315 365
    1 388 396

Only 6 additional directories got a PR1 though 50 directories got PR2. Number of PR4 directories actually decreased.

Here is the blog post: http://www.directoryroll.com/blog/pagerank-stats-for-directories/

What do you think about PR on directory homepages?

I do agree with that the number of PR 4 web directories was decreased,
As one of my directories is pr2 now from 4, :(
Overall the new update is not good for my directory network.
    How about yours?

free directories are whored out by everyone, but few link back to them, or place them in public lists. So this is something expected, not only from this PR update :)

That is true. Maybe they should make a requirement that you must link to them before you submit! That will fix their page rank issue.

@waxman1000: They don't remain free as soon as they required a reciprocal. We all know how search engines detest reciprocal linking.

@hyper: I gave dofollow links to free directories in my list earlier. But many of them kept turning to porn sites or getting parked. It's not surprising others don't like to them either.

    It’s sad but very true.

Free web directory one day a blog the next.

    Thanks Brian

Does this mean that Google intentionally treats directories differently from regular websites?
