How did blogs become so popular?

It seems like blogs are so popular now! 5 years ago it wasn't that big..what made blogs so popular now?

 

How long have they been around? About 5 years?

The wikipedia entry for blog states that blogging began in 1994. wikipedia also has a section on the increase of blog popularity.

 

Just set up a blog for a friend and he loves it, cant stop blogging now.

 

easy to setup, easy to have adsense on em, get googled well , can put most bullshit on it, makes for some good cash by side.

 

^^I agree, blogs are easy for starting off with. The flatform is already there so no need for heavy coding. All you need is a descent template of which there are millions available to use

 

Not entirely sure, but I think in previous years the blog platform was used more for voicing your own opinion on personal blogs. Nowadays they are used more commercially as really they are just another CMS.

 

Because they are very easy to set up and you can get one for free and then generate revenue from it.

 

Years ago before the ref=nofollow tag it was very easy to gain PR for your blog by posting comments in other blogs.

 

Waw!! never know that I started blogging about 8 months back Is that thing still Possible ?

 

Easy to set up as mentioned, but I'm pretty sure that it was blogs that were informational or niched that became popular.

Just the average Joe's blog is not that popular.
