I see a lot of people saying it's much easier to promote / market a blog if it's got a solid niche, but I'm just wondering what everyone would define as a niche. For example, you might focus a blog on tips to avoid being hit by the recession while looking for a loan - a tight niche. Or you could talk about money spending in general, looking at a few companies etc. - loose niche. Another; You could devote your blog to your views on the negative activites of the UK MP's - tight niche. You could talk about politics in general, what's in the news etc. - Loose niche. Are these loose niches still ok to run with?
It all depends on the ways you want to monetize your blog. A tight niche as you called will be better for adsense and affiliate marketing. BTW i am a loose NiChEr
I found good results from targetting a niche thats also only for the UK, rather than worldwide. Its helping that its not an over done niche, yet at the same time its rather large with a lot of demand.
It all depends. If it's about politics, I would target a specific country. If it's about money, I would make it more general.
Narrow down a subject matter. That's all. If you want to blog about model trains, then blog about model trains. If you have expertise in HO scale trains, then make that your focus...but that still leaves you open to all the products and manufacturers that make HO scale equipment...which are many. # Accurail # AHM/Rivarossi # Athearn # Atlas # Bachmann # Bowser # Branchline # Brass Imports # Broadway Limited # Buildings, Track & Access. # Concor # Fleischmann # Hornby # IHC # Intermountain # Kadee/ Model Power # Kato # Life-Like # Lima # Lionel # Mantua # Marklin # Marx # Merten ...just to name a few. I wouldn't blog about "HO Scale Model Train Engines made by Bachman" that is too narrow, more for a single article, and you will run out of posts in about 3 days. If you leave it open to just model trains in general..it's still a distinct niche, but then you have leeway to cover all scales: HO Scale , Z Scale, Livesteam, N Scale, O Scale, OO Scale, G Scale and Standard. Get the picture ?
