How dead is too dead?

I am considering getting back into blogging again. I have an old blog. It's been a year since my last real post. Would it work to just pick up and start posting on it again or is it too late?

It's a blogger blog if that makes any difference...

I don't see anything wrong in that, just write a post saying you stopped a year ago and you're back and take things as normal from there.

    Have a link?

Yes. It's already indexed and seasoned. No need to waste it, just jump back on the horse, make a few style changes and announce yourself to the world again.

I agree, as Veej says, just let people know that you will be regularly blogging there again.

You have probably been missed there. :)

lol I doubt it. It averages about 4 hits a day... I don't think those 4 people are missing me that much!

Back when it was active, it averaged about 6 hits a day...:rolleyes:

You might start by republishing any outdated posts you have with the current date and any edits needed to bring the posts up to date.

What I've found is that the most important thing is consistency.
Keep at it and the visitors will come - some people are talented enough to make that happen in weeks, others months but the longer your persist (even 1 post a week on a regular basis), the more visitors you'll attract.

    It just takes some time!

Now that's a good idea! I have found a few with broken links that I was going to edit... But I could just delete them and repost them as new posts with updated links? That sounds like an easy way to get back into the swing of things. ;)

Well, maybe the ressurection will bring in the hoards of visitors this time, the fact that you want to go back to it is a good thing, means you still have a interest.

Good luck :) remember to report back if it really takes off.

I post updates about my software every few days and rarely once a week. But since there are other bloggers on my blog the blog is more "active"

    I will. Thanks.

I'm trying to learn a little bit of basic SEO stuff over at the SEO.com forums. Maybe this time I can learn to do it right and see what a difference a little bit of SEO can make. ;)

I like your new avatar, pipes! ;)

I had a blog like that, although I had neglected it for just a few months, not a year. What I did initially was disable the date function, so no one could see how long it had been since I posted, that way they wouldn't get discouraged, like see my new posts and think I would disappear again. Then when I had been posting consistently for a few weeks and the old posts were no among the first pages, and I had built a good "track record" of consistent posts, I re-enabled the date function again.

    Hi There -

I had a situation like that, and changed the domain name, but kept the old content. I then did a redesign for the new name.

    Best of success -
