Most of the payment processing is done using paypal and googlecheckout, apart from others.
They provide API's exposing standard functions for you to make call (ie. send and receive data) preferably encrypted using secure certificates.
Stores like OSCommerce come with standard payment processing modules.
What tech have you employed for your store? is it PHP or ASP? Have you built something from scratch or modified any exisiting software ?
Post more info, and google for more info :)

    Cheers

Online payment companies provide interface to send receive payment data and verification. Some provider allow you to post data and recive verification and some provide special Api calls to do that. Its not that much tough as it looks in beginning.

if you want to find a coder to make things done then you need to visit rentacoder.com where you can ask someone there to integrate 2checkout with your website

It may be complex in the background but the front end interface is simple 95% of the time.
