How could this be?

This site http://www.freewebs.com/bandhkennels/ has a PageRank 5.

However, it has less than 20 backlinks, most of which are very low quality. It has ONE PR 4 linking to it and a couple 3's and that is it.

How could it have a PR 5 with such low link popularity?

I've seen PR 4 sites with 100 times more backlinks, many of which are quality. How could this one have so few quality links, and so few total links and still have such a high PR?

 

Wait untill google updates this site it will have low page rank when they are done.

 

Yeah, but we don't know that. We would certainly expect it to have a low PR, but what I'm looking for is an explanation for why it has a PR 5 right now, especially considering its low link popularity?

 

Something got screwed up in the Algo! It should get fixed come next update.

could be some internal PR leak, the backlinks it has maybe boost it to PR5, only guessing.. i have pages on my site with PR4 and no backlinks.

 

So the consensus here is that this is some kind of flook or mistake?

No kidding. I didn't use Google to find the sites backlinks. Trust me, there are less than 20 and only one above a PR 3 and it is a PR 4, yet the site has a PR 5?

Any theories on why this site that has a very low link popularity is a PR5?
