How could I make this more attractive?

Take a look on the left side, I'm attempting to add a new column to the forum, and I did it successfully with http://indigosociety.com except for http://writersbeat.com it's going to be a little more harder to blend in.

Can anyone give me some advice on how I can make this outermost-left column "sexier"?

Colors looks a bit boring... Use some bright colors somewhere to draw visitor's attention...

Ugh, those colors already make me bored. I'd suggest redoing the whole color scheme to make the entire site much more attractive.

I would change the whole site.

The biggest problem that I see, is if you make the left bar "pretty" it'll throw it out of whack compared to the rest.

I dunno. Maybe change the font style, size, weight, etc?

 

Yeah that's my concern too.

Blah, I wish I could hire a designer to do this. Nobody works with vbulletin
