I am curious. This particular website that I had in mind is one of my competitor's web sites but I am talking about in general. Could the keywords in the domain name play a part in it? How about the year the domain name was registered?
There could be several reasons. One of it maybe is because the site is highly optimized for a non-competitive keyword. Another reason could be because the site has already attained certain rank but not yet shown until the next PR update.
PR is not really a factor for ranking on Page 1. There are many low PR sites on Page 1 of Google. Some even PR 0. I think Google does not regard PR as a criteria.
Are you simply saying do not put too much emphasis or worry about a pages pr. If this is the case why do so many people wish to discuss pr and seem to feel it is important - would you say it is just an indication to how the se's feel about the content on that page and nothing else like back links or do other factors come into play for pagerank and if that is the case then it is a reflection on how good your seo is going Apologies if this doesn't make sense but I just dont get the pr thing at all
Maybe PR has become so entrenched as a must-have thing, that's why people always discuss PR. PR is important to me too, but it's mainly just to pat myself on the back.... Some are interested in PR cos they can sell the PR (in secret). I always see low PR, or no PR sites ranking well, so it can't be the PR helping the site to rank. There are times when a page has NO backlinks at all to it, but still ranks on the first page out of hundreds of thousands of results. Again, not a clear answer so far for this. I think this should be good news for all webmasters, that some pages can rank without any effort.
Toolbar PR is now approximately two months old. At the next PR update, expect your competitors PR to jump. Domain age and keywords in the domain can help. But I would guess that your competitor has picked up some quality backlinks since the last PR update. Have you checked their backlink profile? Without knowing all the details, nobody here can give you a very accurate answer. When you search for the keyword in quotes, how many result pages are returned? It could be a low competition keyword. Make sure you do some keyword research before jumping into the niche...
I think the unique content on properly developed site(seo friendly) and other seo efforts can get higher position in google search in keywords(less competitive most of the time).. As getting PR for new site can take some time(depends on the PR updates and other factors) then it dosent mean that new sites 1 , 2, or 3 months old cannot get the higher positions in search engines in their desiered keywords.
Its probably not a competitive keyword. Its not that hard if its very uncompetitive. But for competitive keywords PR means a lot because EVERYTHING has to be perfect including PR, so you need at least a PR 3 to 5 at the minimum for most decent keywords to rank on page 1.
i have one site till now pr 0. If i concentrate on one keyword for just a day, then my site is on top for atleast 5 days without doing anything. My site is directory. (Directory do not rank most for such things).
It is depend on the quality content (or unique content) and the density of the keyword is important. And focus on making quality content and keyword, then you will go to rank1 even you have PR0 website
How long has the site been appearing on page 1? New sites sometimes get a bounce towards the top before falling back.
Google give a New Content Boost to new pages and new sites, this boost helps them rank high in search results. But this boost is only temporary. Because of this boost, new sites or new pages rank high in search results but only for few days.
This is usually what I see. I see a new site come along and jump to the first page even into the top 5 results for a short while and then fade back to where they belong. It seems google does this to test how visitors will respond to the site. Also, like what has been said several times in this thread, I don't think PR really means a whole lot with regard to getting a particular page to make it to the first page for keywords that are not super competitive. I am in real estate and worked in a small town for a year. Within 2 months I dominated all the major keywords and did not even have a 0 page rank until the 3rd month. When I moved my site index only had a PR2 and still was crushing ones with PR's of 3 & 4 that have existed for years.
I totally agree with the above post, and there is another factor you should keep in mind: The PR value in the toolbar is outdated and only updates once Google decide to export the PR, however the real PR value updates all the time and if you are optimizing at the minute then your PR value will keep on changing..
