how competitive is "too competitive"?

OK, I have found some nice domains for keywords that are searched a lot, the problem is there are so many results, like over 100,000,000 :(

I think the best thing is to find something that is searched a lot but has little competition (if there is such a thing)

where do you draw the line?

for example would you ever beat weather.com in a search for local weather?
(303,000,000 results) or is it just not worth trying?

    James.

Well, obviously, one word keyword phrases are way too competitive for the new website. First, you need to target less competitive keywords. Generally, the keywords that your incoming links allow you to rank for (small to medium competitiveness).

After you get some solid incoming links, you may want to use your main keyword in other phrases that you target to become the authority in your industry.

Then again, you may want to control the anchor text in the incoming links as much as you can. Proper internal linkig should help that.

Writing unique, quality content should be good to establish your online presence as well.

As long as YOU think you can make the website better than the competition, nothing is "too competitive". The End. ;)
