I was just wondering why you cant acquire the domains 1.com 2.com 3.com 4.com 5.com 6.com 7.com 8.com 9.com also the same with a.com? b-z.com etc... how come these domains are impossible to buy? like I mean they were never made available? and their are no sites parked on them I dont get it? thanks
I don't think that ICANN ever released the single character domains to the open market. I don't think a.com b.com etc resolve either. I had heard that they were going to release these domains soon and auction them off. Of course, only the big players will be able to purchase them at auction since they will probably go for $xxx, xxx and up.
It's currently not allowed. From RFC 1035: Domain Implementation and Specification November 1987 "..... "A "name" (Net, Host, Gateway, or Domain name) is a text string up to 24 characters drawn from the alphabet (A-Z), digits (0-9), minus sign (-), and period (.). Note that periods are only allowed when they serve to delimit components of "domain style names". (See RFC-921, "Domain Name System Implementation Schedule", for background). No blank or space characters are permitted as part of a name. No distinction is made between upper and lower case. The first character must be an alpha character. The last character must not be a minus sign or period. A host which serves as a GATEWAY should have "-GATEWAY" or "-GW" as part of its name. Hosts which do not serve as Internet gateways should not use "-GATEWAY" and "-GW" as part of their names. A host which is a TAC should have "-TAC" as the last part of its host name, if it is a DoD host. Single character names or nicknames are not allowed." ...." Note the two pieces I put in bold, basically it's not currently allowed, doesn't mean it won't be in future. The reason that 10.com is ok is because 10 is not a single character.
definitely in millions! companies like yahoo, google should buy it. I mean i use google everyday.. wish it was just g.com. Would save atleast 2 minutes everyday.. or 6,520 hours in my whole life time!
I wouldn't think millions. But maybe hundred's of thousands. As easy as they are to type in, they don't have any instinctive type-in traffic besides the occasional curious surfer.
syed123: you mean you actually type google.com? don't you have a modern browser that fills things in for you, or has a search bar built in??
Just checked, and they do, perhaps its on of those mistakes that slip in occasionally. (Things sometimes get registered that shouldnt be)
