How close do industry links need to be...?

Hi I have a client who is an architect and desperate for quality follow links, many quality links come from awards, but one can only win so many awards ... I was planning on obtaining links from builders he has used and suppliers of construction materials for buildings he has designed. Thus effectively customers of his such as bi-fold windows and doors, paint, builders he has used, fittings and fixtures suppliers (cabinets, kitchens etc) glass and aluminium and so on.

Does anyone have an idea whether links from the back links of the above would be considered by Google to be within the same industry and thus rank my architect higher with the addition of quality links as described above?

Or is Google going to get confused and think that these links are not within the same industry and lower the rank of my architects website?

Your help would be greatly, greatly appreciated, really want to help this client out. Many thanks in advance...

Does architect have anything to do with building/construction?
Does architect have anything to do with builders/planning?
Does architect have anything to do with building supplies, fitting, fixtures, etc?

I think you have answered your own question...

from my stand point, maybe you should not build his links at all....
I imagine within a few months, he will start to wonder what went wrong....

Hi dscurlock, thanks for taking the time to reply to my question. In answer to your questions yes this architect does have involvement in building/construction/ builders/planning and also building supplies fixtures and fittings. In order to design a home he has to draw up plans that conform with local government planning guides, most often submits then to the planning authorities. He also for some clients is actually the project manager for the entire build thus he chooses and engages the builders, he specifies what building materials are used and he also does internal architecture which includes specifying fixtures and fittings. Do you still think that these industries are too far apart to be of value to Google as backlinks?

I am not an expert, but I see no reason why google would have any problems...
after all, in some way or another they are related to architecture; architecture just does
not imply to skyscrapers. I do not think you would encounter any issues from google....
