If you have the Canonical Problem, Google will consider your site as a duplicate site. That would be a problem for the higher ranking.

This canonical url will not help in ranking but it will prevent the duplicate content problem.

Canonical issues usually doesn't effect the site ranking. Actually its done just to consider the best URL for your website, cause there can be different variations of your website like: www.example.com, example.com, www.example.com/index.html.... logically similar but technically different and in some cases can turn-up with different results from the web server. However if you do not specify, Google automatically canonicalizes the URL. But just to be sure that Google picks up the best one, you specify it explicitly using the related HTML tag. But it is most important that you maintain the consistency with the URL throughout the website. Say if you are using example.com, then use the same while linking it from other pages of the website. Links partially going to example.com and remaining to www.example.com is not good practice.

Canonical issue means same page with different URLS.

If your website has canonical issue, correct that with htaccess.

Keep only one URL for 1 particular page.

If your site have canonical issue then then Google will count 2 different site, it will be a big problem to your site.

Canonical issues doesn't really affect the website ranking. You must maintain the consistency of URL throughout the site. It just prevents duplicate content.

If canonical issues is with a site then it will open with www and non-www. Search Engine treats as two different sites. so if there is canonical issues then there may be the chance of loosing page rank.
