How can you tell if Google is punishing you (because of the ad-network)?

I, for one, am glad to have you around E Doc. It's very refreshing to have another intelligent contributor on the forum.

    Ditto here too, Doc.

The coop is an awesome concept and I'm in awe that Shawn could put it together so quickly and have it work so well.

But, it's tough to understand why so many obviously intelligent and hardworking members completely blow off or degrade suggestions that would do nothing but help everyone involved - including themselves. I'm talking about things that have absolutely no downside, a tremendous potential for improvement, longevity for the coop, and improved support for the other Digital Point programs.

Do you think it is worthwhile to post a quick survey on the hot topics? I mean if 95% of members agree on one improvement, would it be considered?

I know the main challenge of the concept is complete for Shawn. But, what if we were to arrive at a consensus as to what else will strengthen the coop. The next challenge could be to make the coop a near-perfect tool for advertising, possibly one of the top 5 things ever created on the internet for legitimate marketing -- would that be considered a separate challenge?

The first PC was one helluva tool, but without improvement, where would it be?

I can be guilty of this at times...

I do spend a lot of time here and frequently see the same questions cropping up.
(Categorisation, ad longevity, Coop running on adult sites (Not links pointing to adult sites)...)

It does get a little tiring sometimes, especially when conversations have lasted pages on particular subjects (Especially the categorisation stuff), yet people aren't prepared to look for the information before they post a question.

Anyway, I think I help most of the people that I chat to on here (I'd like to think so anyway) and if I ever seem like a grumpy bastard, just tell me an I'll tone it down. :)

Regarding post counts of members - Sure, I chat more frequently with the guys I met on here a year ago than the ones that have only just become members, but I don't show any disrespect to people just because of their post count. I disrecpect people if they piss me off. :)

Even though I don't respond to every little message, I read all the suggestions... but the common ones that keep coming up again and again have been covered numerous times... adult/gambling/RX co-op, turning it into more of a link exchange system rather than an advertising system, etc...

I understand and respect your position, Shawn. I have recently been forced to eat some humble pie and I really don't mind, it can actually taste good sometimes.

As a webmaster we know we must stand on guard for our own best interest. I recently migrated a couple of many domains that are a part of your masterpeice to another COOP that provides a similar concept. The difference being permanent vs DP's rotating. My concern was the recent articles I have read about link-churning and more value put on links that are permanent (the longer the more value).

Well, behold the power of this COOP. On the most recent bl update my link count doubled. How could this be? The only new SEO technique that I have employed for the last few months has been here :). I begin to look through my bl's many COOP's. However a few questions still are unanswered in my mind:

    1) What is the value of a COOP link with Google?
    2) If Google would impliment an algo that completely devalues a COOP link, what would become of the COOP?
    3) If #2 happens we will then be relying on clickthroughs for traffic and what ever other SE's have not devalued COOP links?

If/when it is time for a new brainchild why not hand pick some of the DP intellent members and create 'THE MOTHER' of all online advertising tools.

Outbound links will dilute your PR. You turn from an authority site to a hub site.

I have articles on this if you want me to point them to you.

Well, I've read articles both for and against the concept of PR leakage, and my opinion is that there is no firm answer on that topic. It's just too tough to do any reasonable scientific experiment on the matter.

I won't argue that point. I go upon the original stanford article written by the G guys. The best *I* have to go on as far as scientific goes.

    Homer -

    *Brilliant* Have a Guinness.

I believe if just a few things were adjusted and added to the coop, it would exponentially increase it's value to all and could possible be one of the single biggest marketing tools ever invented.

    Why wait?

I was directing my comments at the person who felt it necessary to give Homer a bad rep point and said privately 'why do you insist in bumping this thread up over and over?'

Somehow I doubt that was you ;)

It was more a general dig at the few members who feel they are somehow superior beings based on the number of posts they have made. And yes - Homer hit the nail on the head - I got shot-down-in-flames by Fryman on my very first post. Not the warm welcome I was hoping for.

I'm not suggesting that being a forum veteran is a bad thing in itself - that would be just as absurd as suggesting that 'newbies' have no useful input.

The problem with the faceless web - you don't know who is on the other end of the line. Some people just seem to enjoy the anonymity a bit too much and thing it's ok to insult people they know nothing about. I would guess it's due to some sort of inferiority complex or something.

The majority of posters on this forum appear to be intelligent level-headed people with only the best of intentions. Unfortunately the few members that choose to behave like school children spoil it for the rest of us....

Sure. 4 sites links can be found here with a brief explanation of each.

I've also set up one domain on this 'other' system and I plan to add a few more, splitting my sites into 2 groups. Group A runs co-op ads, my co-op ads point to Group B sites. Group B runs link-vault ads, my link-vault ads point to Group A sites.

The BIG advantage the co-op has is the size of the network now. One of the reasons I 'go-on' about some of the things I'd like to see in the co-op is because I believe it has the potential to be even better than it is now.

You've got a large network of pretty decent sites (for the most part) running co-op ads and you've got thousands of approved text-ads linking to an even larger network of sites - this to me is a major asset that (IMO) could be put to even better use.

I understand Shawn isn't interested in implementing some of the things we've suggested - (I use to hate programming sequels) - But I'd still be interested to know what other people think. If enough people are behind a suggestion then *maybe* Shawn could be persuaded to change his mind or even 'out-source' the coding to someone who is interested.

I for one would love to see a little check box that says - make your links appear static to robots on other participating websites. Meaning - if you opt-in by checking the box, the ads still rotate as they do now, but when a SE bot comes along the system has an uncanny habbit of showing the same ads it did last time the same bot visited (only applicable to those ads belonging to members who opt-in). This would appease those concerned about link-churn and the SERPs with no downside for those only interested in the co-op as an advertising network.

I don't see the harm in making suggestions like this and I think a feature wish-list poll is a good idea. Unfortunately not everyone in the co-op actively participates in this forum, so the results might not be that reliable :p

The good thing about a discussion forum is, you're not forced to participate. If a topic doesn't interest you, I see no point in joining in simply to tell people to shut-up.
    :)

Thanks...Although I think we can give up on modifying the existing COOP. If I understand the master it isn't going to change in principle (rotating links). So I kinda gave up on that plan.

I am trying to help inspire the motivation to develop a 'new masterpeice'. Somehow I feel that's the best approach. At the same time offer help where help is required from other members with different areas of expertise.

Can you imagine? So, first we ned a basic blueprint? ;) Keeping in mind the idea of you get out what you put in...An online guide to COOP networking...a network of coop networks

i can't be certain but i think that's the same as what i'm experiencing

So, if one was to somehow cache the co-op ads (externally) and make them semi-permanent that would be technically in breach of the terms of service agreement? like a plug-in :) i apoligise in advance if this is somehow blasphemous.

    1. Outbound links will NOT dilute the PR of a web page. PR bleed does not exist.
    2. The original article does not anywhere say that PR bleed exists.
    3. There has never ever been any credible evidence presented to support the claim that PR bleed exists. There have been several opinion pieces which are sometimes cited as evidence but these are nothing more than speculation.
    4. PR bleed does not exist. Get over it. Get on with your life. Stop worrying about it.

I'm not sure what you're seeing there that bothers you, Homer. I see an unrelated small banner ad at the top, and five stacked Coop banners at the bottom (not very attarctive but not illegal).

What is it you think violates the Coop TOS on that page?

View source and look at the bottom this site is running DP COOP and link-vault. 5 DP banners and 1 link vault textlink.

It's not that it bothers me. I was lead to believe that I can run one or the other but not both on the same page. Although we can run DP code in a sub domain.

So I am just trying to clarify if we can do this.
