As I have been constantly hearing from people that irrespective of page rank for your site, you can still make your site pages listed higher in the SERPs for some keywords. Can somebody explain in detail, how can we make the site pages to list higher in SERPs. I mean what would a webmaster have to do in order to get their pages listed higher on SERPs?

    Pray harder. :p

Seriously, James Dean Nash is right - you need to learn the beginner stuff first. After all, how many babies do you see running in the 100 meter race in the Olympics?

Submit to directories, ask for relevant link exchanges - and have quality/unique content. James is right on the ball.

Don't worry about PR. Focus on on-page optimization, backlinks, and unique content.

Backlinks are the most important aspect if you want to increase your SERPs. After that would probably be on-page SEO.
