You can't do it without link building.

 

I guess with great content will raise many nature back link it self. Well if people find our content helpful and informative maybe the consider to link back. Just my though...

 

All you need is a lot of pages on your site. Build a 1000 page site with good internal structure, you can do well without backlinks.

 

If your keyword is competitive at all, this is simply not true. Google is smarter then that. It might work ok on Yahoo or MSN. Either way, if your going to build 1000 pages of quality content, then you might as well build some links.

 

It would be extremely difficult to get to the top of Google without link building. But I would not say impossible, it also depends on how competitive your keywords are. I'm not sure why you are trying to avoid link building though. It is very effective and should be employed as part of a larger SEO strategy. But most importantly you need quality content which is updated on a regular basis if you want to get anywhere.

 

100% agree, notice a lot is being said about link building, I know Google is trying to stop spamming which is good but you don't have to spam to get top rankings.

Write good content, upload it to the right places and get it noticed, the backlinks will follow.

 

Create some awesome/frequently updated content and others will link to you. Otherwise, pray for a miracle...
