If you have the good rank. It mean you site is OK too. I don't know the way to confirm. But, we know from our monitoring.

If you are penalized by Google, your traffic in most of the times would go down to zero. Your ad earnings would probably come down if its Google Ads violation. Also you receive a notification 95% of times in Google Webmaster tools that you are doing this thing wrong, and that happens after one or two warnings as well.

First off.. just because a site ranks in position #100 + for a specific keyword does not mean it's a penalty, it could just be that the site is not optimised for that keyword hence it does not rank for it.

You can also have penalties for specific keywords rather than the whole site.. something else to consider.. so if you have tried to optimised for a specific keyword and it's ranking position #100 + they you may of over-optimised for it and received a penalty.

To see if a site is having issues (as a whole not for a keyword) you need to check things like the index status of the site, info status in Google, search in Google for "mydomainurl" (including the " ") to make sure its coming up... there are a few other things but that's a start .. plenty of information online/in the forums here.

You can't tell if you have suffered a penalty without comparing your current rankings to your previous rankings for the same keyword. You should be checking your rankings for your main keywords on a daily basis to monitor the return on your SEO investment, otherwise you're just blindly building links. I use a program called rankeriser to monitor all of my rankings, but there are loads of programs out there which do the same job. If you see them drop suddenly, you can then start checking algo update dates to see if the drop correlates with any of the updates, which would indicate a penalty. Only manual penalties are notified through webmaster tools warnings, so don't rely on that to tell you if your site has been penalised.

How did you know that your site or keyword has been penalized?

Is this due to fluctuation in ranking?

If the fluctuation in ranking within 100 position then it is not big matter, it happens usually, keep working continuously and it would be on track one day.

Well, just because you lose rankings, doesn't mean you are penalized haha. You are truly penalized if your website url doesn't appear in the search results.

Just paste your url page into the search results, if it doesn't appear (assuming you are already indexed), then you might of been removed from the search engines. Hope that helps!

That will only tell you if your url has ben deindexed. Whilst being deindexed is obviously "worst case scenario" it is perfectly possible (and indeed very common) to be under a penalty without having yourself deindexed. In fact, the vast majority of the time if you are under some kind of penalty - be that Panda, Penguin, manual action, EMD or anything else - your url will still remain indexed, but will see a drop in rankings either under certain keywords, or on an "across the board" basis.

If you are still getting ranked, you are definitely fine.
It should only be a concern if your previous position was top 10 and it experienced a drastic drop.
