How can this website have so many pages?

I'm about to launch a niche travel website and have been looking at the size of some of the competition. Some sites are global and have several thousand pages but what has struck me is that some small very niche sites have over a thousand pages too. This site www.iguassufallstour.com has 1200 pages but when I look at their site map there doesn't appear to be this many. Additionally, what appears to be a page on the site map is often only a paragraph when displayed on a page.

So, does this website really have 1200 pages or if not what is it about the design of their site that makes search engines like google etc see 1200 pages?

Thanks in advance for the pearls of wisdom,

    Gavin

I'm sorry but you've lost me a little. What does 'view images and supplemental results like the top control bar over and over' mean?

If I'm guessing correctly the fact that there are many old versions of the site archived by a search engine means that these are viewed as web pages even though they are no longer relevant to current users.

    Am I getting warmer?

Yes. click on the link I showed above. It gives the google results inclucding supplemental results. Supplemental results are results that are both supple and mental.;) They are basically pages that google recognizes but doesn't include in the standard results page.

In the supplemental results you will see many named top bar. This is a navigation bar I guess as a sort of frame. Click around in the results and you will see well enough.

And those archived pages (maybe a poor choice of words on my part) are as real as any. They still exist with unique content...more or less. I didn't explore to see where those articles came from, or if there were longer versions elsewhere.

I know I'm not completely explaining, but seriously..just look at it. :)
