How can others do blogging on my wordpress site?

    Hello,

    I have a wordpress 3.2.1 site,hosted by Hostgator,India.

I have been told by many persons that Wordpress has an in-built feature through which people who get registered in my site can do blogging. They can also upload images and videos alongside their blogs.

This section to do blogging can be accessed by them in their profile/dashboard page.No separate plugin will be needed to incorporate this feature. But members can use this feature, only after I activate this feature.

My problem is that I do not know how to activate this particular feature for the members.

As a result, only I(administrator) can blog currently.

Please explain to me very simply, how to activate this feature,as I am not a software/technical expert.

    Many thanks..

Go to Settings > General > Click on "Anyone can register" for the Membership option.
Set New User Default Role to Author.
Your registration page URL will be: www.yourdomain.com/wp-login.php?action=register
Link this URL from your website.

Thank you very much for the prompt reply.

After reading your reply,I have made these changes,ie,user's role to that of "author",etc.

Also the register, login options were already there on my site,ie,anyone can register and login.

Still I cannot see the option for the registered member to post blogs, videos, images, etc.

Please tell me what more needs to be done.

    Thanks once again..

You don't need to do anything :)
When someone will registered, they will be able to login from this page: yourdomain.com/wp-login.php or yourdomain.com/wp-admin
After logging, they can make posts from Posts > Add new.
    Very simple!

Thanks once again for your promptness. :)

Before posting my previous reply above,I had already logged into my site, using another ID(not the administrator ID)to check if the feature to post blogs, images, videos, etc. can be seen by me,or not.

However,I couldn't find this POSTS>ADD NEW section in my profile and dashboard. So where exactly does it appear to a logged in member?

This is what I wanted to know.

    Regards,

    Deepika

This is because, that ID is registered as subscriber.
You have to upgrade it to author or contributor.
You can do it from Users > Users > Select the username > Change role to : Author > Change.

I had also made default role to author on my blog and then I day I wake in the morning and see 4 spam posts published on my blog, it they went into feed, on twitter and everywhere. because everything was automatic. I would suggest making the default role as contributor to be safe from this situation :)

Just create some users , and give them appropriate privileges and let them add content to your wordpress site.

If you want someone to register and be able to post comments on blogs only, what would their role be?
