Well Myspace and Facebook have actually experienced slight drops in visitor numbers which indicates some displeasure with them but I dont think you can got for the whole market if you intend to start a replica.

I would aim for a niche somehow like a site where teachers could keep in touch when they move schools...I havent found a single one of my old teachers on facebook so maybe they feel put off by it?

I dunno, use you're imagination and i'm sure you'll come up with something better than that.

I think the question is what can you offer in your site that facebook and myspace aren't offering that will make people want to switch. I'm afraid that you are going to get a lot of responses from people that have those ideas since my guess would be they might use them themselves.

Try to think of ideas which have not been established online, which you feel would ebenfit the majority of online users. Like Facebook, though loads of people were using Bebo and MySpace, it decided to allow people to create 'applications' which was a new thing, and developers could create new games, profiles etc all without work from the admin. Or combine elements from various companies and implement them into a sole site.

    Good luck.
