I have 2 sites and I want to prevent my competiros viewing the changes i do for SEO, so I was wondering what the correct way using .htaccess is to block IP's or URLS?

    Please share.

Well you can block by a visitor by referer (which is useless in this situation):
    RewriteEngine on
    # Options +FollowSymlinks
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} badsite\.com [NC,OR]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} anotherbadsite\.com
    RewriteRule .* - [F]
    Code (markup):
Or if you can block a visitor by ip:
with "deny from 12.3.4" bocking a range of IPs.

But this won't really prevent your competition from seeing what you are doing in regards to seo. They can just switch their IP address easily..

that will not solve it because you can always view sites through a proxy....
