I'd say the most basic thing you'd have to do to actually run a successfull organic search engine optimization campaign would be to analyse your target niche and make sure you've understood your niche well. Most newp seo's would call this as keyword analysis and a very elementary thing with seo would be to not follow any book or guide - i believe the best tool when your SEOing a website would be experience and testing. I would initially frame my website's usp's and what it offers to the general public and run thro with a niche analysis and go for keyset determination using the demand versus supply curve. Then the next step would be categorizing your website and preparing it for SEO or in other terms doing those umpteen onsite SEO preperations. Building links is super elementary unless you're in a really competitive niche - just look for one way links. This is probably a 10 line description on what all other SEO Books say

i would suggest that you make your site as user friendly as possible...that should help....and besides using keywords doesn't hurt either....
