I suggest buying one of the ebooks that a few DP users have written on proxies. The 'Platinum Proxy Guide' is the best one imo and outlines everything you need to know from buying the domain and hosting your site to advertising your proxy.

yes there are many free proxy scripts such as phpproxy, glype and zelune. (google them) most hosts do not allow any proxies to run on shared servers due to resource usage. Its better off to go for specialized proxy hostings or a dedicated server.
I recommend using the glype proxy script. It is pretty much the best script out there. Check with your host to make sure they allow proxies.

Hey mate. Setting up a proxy site is pretty easy. You need a domain and a host to start. - You can register with namecheap.com or godaddy.com for domains. - For a host I would recommend wdservers.com aka thewird here on DP. They are the best IMO and they are who I use. - Scripts are free phpproxy (download at buildaproxy.com) or glype (download at glype.com) are both good scripts. Glype does come with support for myspace out of the box which is nice, however there are currently more addons available for phpproxy. Either way both will get the job done. - Get a free template for you respective scripts, just do a search hear on DP. Upload the files to your server and customize the template if you like. - Join several advertising companies, here is a list of the best ones: http://platinumproxyguide.com/more/monetization - Place the ad code on your sites. - Advertise! - This is the most important step and will determine how much money you make. The harder you work and the more consistent you are at this, the more money you will make. Start by going to Google and Yahoo Groups and advertising in proxy groups. Browse thru the freebies section here at DP, and search for free proxy advertising. Visit the General Marketing section here on DP. You will find that many standard marketing methods can be adapted to work for advertising proxies. Do a few link exchanges with other proxy webmasters. This will get you started. FYI.
