Hi, I have a Blog through Wordpress. The domain is registered through GoDaddy and the blog is hosted at Yahoo Hosting. I want to sell the entire site. How would I do this without causing any problems? for example, how would the new site owner assume control of the blog when its registered with Yahoo? As soon as I cancel my plan with them, won't the website go down? Please help!
Are you able to do a backup of your wordpress database? if so, do that and also do a backup of the current theme and any plugins you are using and thats it. As soon as you have that data, it doesn't matter if your account is closed with yahoo. You will then give the next blog owner this backed up information and you're done. -- Phil
sorry for the silly question...but how do I do a backup on my CPANEL and how do I transfer that info to the buyer?
You'll have to download the backup once it is done and either email it to your buyer or upload it somewhere secure for him to download. ~ Sirius Lin
If you are going to sell the domain with the website and webfiles in tact, then all that is required is to FTP everything to the new hosting company - that is if the buyer decides to take a different host Sometimes if someone keeps the same host, the host will arrange for all the files to be transferred without any hassle The basic process is: 1) You sell the domain 2) You transfer the domain to the buyer, through you Godaddy or other registrant members area 3) You give FTP access to your existing hosting admin area to your buyer, for them to FTP the files from your host to their own hosting company 4) When all the files are transfered, the domain DNS information can be switched, and then everything should work just fine, without the site hardly going offline at all 5) Once 24/36 hours has elapsed, you can then cancel your hosting deal - give it this long to allow for the DNS to switch from your host to your buyers Hope that helps you
Yea the technical aspects are covered in previous posts. As for where to sell, I would recommend the Sitepoint marketplace, its the most active website marketplace I've been so far.
